Firm adaptability via agility is widely considered in the context of digital transformation, which is central to the research agenda of management information systems (MIS). Originating from software development and manufacturing, agility is strongly related to MIS particularly to their design and evaluation. Many studies have examined the contributions of agility but have not considered it distinctly as an organizational orientation. Developing such a perspective leads to the following research question: What dimensions are related to agile orientation (AO) and how can they be measured? To address this question, this research proposes the use of the theory of dynamic capabilities; this theory aims to detect changes and realign and reconfigure organizations, which is characteristic of agile methods. This research is based on a scale development approach. The results of this research make theoretical contributions by conceptualizing AO through dynamic capabilities, characterizing the dimensions of AO, and contributing to the literature on the evaluation of IS through the introduction of AO as a determinant to explain certain phenomena. This notion offers new perspectives on various models, particularly those centered on postadoption.
